Together We Achieve

International Primary Curriculum

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is a 21st century curriculum which extends knowledge, skills and understanding, develops personal attributes and supports the development of an international perspective in a way that responds to the latest ideas about how children learn. It is a curriculum used in over 500 schools throughout the world and it is thematically based. It is an exceptionally well-organised and rigorous framework for helping children to learn in all subjects across the curriculum.

Parents receive a letter from their child's teacher every time the class is starting a new unit of work. This is because we know that children whose parents show interest, support and encouragement in their child's work, help them do better at school.

Personal Goals

Alongside subject knowledge and skills, IPC is designed to develop eight personal goals in pupils:  enquiry, resilience, morality, communication, thoughtfulness, cooperation, respect and adaptability.

Subjects Covered by IPC

Science

Through science we aim to stimulate children's curiosity and their interest in, and knowledge of, the world around them. The emphasis is on children learning through first-hand experience and practical investigation in order to develop scientific skills.

Design and Technology

We want to prepare all our children for their future in a technological world that is changing all the time. Design and technology helps them to understand how to think creatively to improve our world.

History

By encouraging children's interest in the past, we aim to develop their understanding of the world today. We want children to appreciate different human experiences by understanding and valuing their own history and that of other people.

Geography

Through geography we aim to stimulate children's curiosity about the natural and human world. Geography introduces children to different societies, cultures and landscapes. We give the children opportunities to consider their rights and their responsibilities to other people and the environment.

Art and Design

Art, craft and design offer opportunities for children to combine seeing, feeling, thinking and making. We teach the skills children need to be able to express their ideas in different media (such as paint, pastels, clay or collage) and we aim to develop their knowledge and understanding of artists and craftspeople from all over the world.

Music

We believe that music provides a powerful form of communication and expression. We nurture the pupils' enjoyment of music through active involvement in listening, composing and performing. We explore musical influences from all over the world, exposing pupils to a wide range of styles and genres. Musical skills learnt are put into practice through lots of opportunities to perform for others.
