Kingston University Science Trip - Friday 23rd March
On Friday, twelve Year 5 and 6 children were invited by Dr Chris Bore to Kingston University for the day. Dr Bore teaches a module for MSc students in Digital Signal Processing and had asked his students to design and implement a pitch-shifting voice changer to be used in demonstrations to children of primary school age. After watching an explanation of what a ‘Voice Changer’ was and how it worked, the children were given the opportunity to try out the working models and ask questions, in Dalek voices, of the students who had designed them.
After receiving certificates from Dr Bore the children then had a tour of one of Kingston University’s Libraries from a Senior Librarian, before heading off to the restaurant where they bought their own lunch and sat amongst other students to eat.
