Brookwood School in the 60's
Mrs Green welcomed Christine Waters to school on Tuesday. Christine is an ex-pupil who joined the school in 1964 when her family lived on Pirbright Camp where her father was a Grenadier Guard. When Christine was in school, our library was still in use as the school hall and lunch room. The oldest children used our current Squirrels classroom, with everyone else using the Edwardian rooms off the school hall. Her headteacher had an office upstairs and Mrs Green’s office was still the boys’ cloakroom and toilet!
Christine remembers playing outside on the field and, of course, when she joined there was a lot more grass and trees where the Key Stage 2 block is built and where Blossom’s and the Children’s Centre are. She remembers carrying the teachers’ lunches up to the staffroom on trays and how strict the teachers were. She said how much of the school was familiar, yet how much has changed since she was a pupil here; she spoke of having ‘goosebumps’ walking around as it brought back so many memories!
