U11’s Football Tournament at Greenfield School

Wednesday 20th November 2019

A fabulous performance from six talented Brookwood footballers, secured three straight wins in the group stages of this fiercely competitive tournament. Their effective link-up play proved devastating in front of goal and their solid defence allowed everyone to push forward.

The final round of the competition proved to be more of a challenge.  Brookwood were now playing against the winners of the other three groups.  The first match was against an extremely strong team, St Dunstans, with the game constantly moving end-to-end.  St Dunstans took a late lead and despite battling to the final whistle Brookwood could not equalise.

The second match proved pivotal for Brookwood.  Despite losing their outstanding keeper to injury the team powered through, scoring three late, quick-fire goals.

Now down to only five players the team had to show an abundance of resilience, they could not afford any mistakes at this stage of the tournament.  Despite striking the woodwork twice they could not manage to come back from their devastating own-goal.

Because of Brookwood’s excellent team performances across the tournament they secured a very creditable Third Place position in the Gold Medal group.  Three players from Brookwood’s squad were picked out by the Woking FC coaches for a special reward due to their outstanding performance and non-stop hard work, in particularly the final match.

It is also worthwhile noting that several parents from other squads commented on Brookwood’s performances.
