School Garden Update
Sadly I have to report the demise of the potatoes that we were growing in the “Under the Soil" Experiment. Due to the amount of top growth they had put on, the planters could not stay upright and kept on falling over. However, before I disposed of them into the compost bin (they could not be eaten because the soil had been exposed to the sunlight) I took some photos and was amazed at what I saw.
From the outside of the plastic tubes we could see the extensive root system developing and some baby potatoes on the end of the roots. I was not prepared for what I found inside the tubes however … several, perfectly formed potatoes, hidden from site.
As you can see from the photos both varieties seemed to have performed well. It is now one month until we harvest our potatoes grown in the school garden, I for one can’t wait! The rest of the school garden is still growing well, we may even be able to harvest some peas this week.
