Swimming

At Brookwood Primary School we aim for our children to leave KS2 being able to:

  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
  • swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke

Swimming is included in the National Curriculum for PE, and we offer an intensive week of lessons each year, with priority given to children in Year 6, then Year 5 and so on for those who cannot already swim 25 metres. Children who have received a certificate for at least 25m in previous years, or who have achieved this level through attending private swimming lessons do not need to attend these sessions.
